The Hungarian State Theater "Csiky Gergely" from Timișoara was Selected in the 2024 National Theater Festival, with "Pericles"
The team of the Hungarian State Theater "Csiky Gergely" in Timișoara is happy that its performance "Pericles", with its premiere on March 8, 2024, directed by the British Director Philip Parr, was selected to participate in the 34th edition of the National Festival of Theatre, which will take place between October 18 and 27, 2024, in Bucharest.
The troupe of the Hungarian Theater from Timișoara says goodbye to its local audience tomorrow, June 20, with the show "Birds", directed by Kokan Mladenović. The event will take place in the Great Hall, at 7 p.m., followed by the traditional meeting with subscribers, for a brief review of the ending season.
The Hungarian State Theater "Csiky Gergely" in Timișoara presents on June 14, at 7 p.m., Sala Mare, the 6th premiere of the 2023/2024 season - "Danaos", directed by Szabó Kristóf, director and choreographer based in Germany.
The "Csiky Gergely" Hungarian State Theater is organizing the fifteenth edition of the Euroregional Theater Festival - TESZT between May 19-26, and tickets went on sale online and at the theater. Spectators have the possibility to enjoy more than 20 events - theater and dance performances, outdoor performances, contemporary music concerts.

Every person is unique and yet also like every other person. Our visible, external appearance is different from everyone else’s, of course, that is all well and good, but there is also something inside each and every one of us which belongs to that person alone—which is that person alone. We might call this their spirit, or their soul. Or else we can decide not to label it at all in words, just leave it alone.
But while we are all unlike one another, we’re alike too. People from every part of the world are fundamentally similar, no matter what language we speak, what skin color we have, what hair color we have.
This may be something of a paradox: that we are completely alike and utterly dissimilar at the same time. Maybe a person is intrinsically paradoxical, in our bridging of body and soul—we encompass both the most earthbound, tangible existence and something that transcends these material, earthbound limits.
Art, good art, manages in its wonderful way to combine the utterly unique with the universal. It lets us understand what is different—what is foreign, you might say—as being universal. By doing so, art breaks through the boundaries between languages, geographical regions, countries. It brings together not just everyone’s individual qualities but also, in another sense, the individual characteristics of every group of people, for example of every nation.
The Csiky Gergely Hungarian Theatre in Timișoara is ready for the 15th edition of the Euroregional Theatre Festival TESZT, which will take place between May 19-26th 2024. the schedule is available on www.teszt.ro, with full descriptions coming soon. This year, the TESZT selection focuses on the theme of ”The other perspective”, as a mirror for subjects and themes we do not usually think about or which oppose our own beliefs in an increasingly polarized world. The selected productions offer an opportunity for better understanding of the dynamics of human motivations. More than a decade ago, TESZT was born in order to promote multiculturalism and the newest theatre trends and it created a meeting place for theatre makers and the audience. This is why the schedule incorporates performances as well as Q&As, free artistic workshops and workshops for dramaturgy and theatre students.
The performance 1978, directed by the Slovenian Tomi Janežič, evokes Romania of the 1970s. The production is a cross-generational docu-fiction built on the personal stories of the actors and the director. We were interested in what childhood or family memories the actors brought into the creative process of the performance, and how the shared fictional narrative emerged — a story that connects past and present, local and global events, linking Timișoara with Nova Gorica, the town on the Italian–Slovenian border that once also belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire and that witnessed the horrors of the First World War, including the events on the nearby Isonzo front. The Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre in Timișoara is working on Shakespeare’s Pericles, which will open on March 8th 2024 in the Main Hall. The head of the artistic team is Philip Parr, director of the York International Shakespeare Festival, UK, an expert in William Shakespeare’s work.
The Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre in Timișoara is glad to announce that its production 1978, directed by Tomi Janežič, was nominated by the Romanian Theatre Union for two categories: Best theatre performance in 2023 and Best set design for theatre in 2023 (author: Branko Hojnik).
The Euroregional Theatre Festival Timișoara - TESZT, Romania, is an international festival which has been organised since 2008 by the Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre in Timisoara. The event aims to promote multiculturalism, works as a platform for cultural exchange and also as an invitation to dialogue with the artists and other professionals from Europe, with special attention to the Balkan region.
