PREPARING AN INTERNATIONAL COPRODUCTION CO-FINANCED BY EU PROGRAM CREATIVE EUROPE

The traditions of Danube Swabians and ball nights will be staged using the language of contemporary dance for the European project „Someone from Home" - implemented by our theatre together with Novi Sad Student Cultural Center (project coordinator), and project partners Silk Fluegge Linz and Sofia Derida Dance Center. The opening night will be on July 27th 2019 in Freistadt, Austria, while the Timisoara premiere will be on August 30th. „Someone from Home" is an European project co-financed by the Creative Europe program.

The international coproduction started in early 2019 with rehearsals and dance workshops in Timișoara, Linz, Sofia and Novi Sad - the four cities involved in the project. The choreographer Silke Grabinger from Linz originated from a Swabian family which fled Banat after the Second World War and the idea behind the project was a new analysis of her origins and the concept of ethnic identity. Swabian dance elements are intertwined with Romanian, Serbian, Hungarian and Bulgarian folklore and the dancers were free to add popular traditional elements to the overall performance. A documentary film is being made on the theme of Danube Swabians, directed by Meinrad Hofer from Austria.

Performances will be scheduled in every country implementing the project, but the opening will be on July 27th in Freistadt, Austria, as part of the Sunnseitn Festival. The international cast is made of Mátyás Zsolt Imre and Simó Emese from "Csiky Gergely" Hungarian State Theatre in Timișoara, Dudas Gergely and Boglarka Heim from Silk Cie Linz, Aleksandar Jakovljević and Sonja Stojanović from Novi Sad, Peter Grudov, Isabel Mitkova and Simona Todorova from Derida Dance Sofia. The original music was composed by Ivan Shopov and Ljubomir Nikolić, while the costumes were designed by Elena Mazăre, Bianca Fladerer, Silke Grabinger and Michael Eidenberger.

The show will  be presented in Timișoara for the first time on August 30th in an open-air space, using live music and allowing the audience to be active participants. Before the performance, the dancers involved in the project will organise a free dance workshop.
